According to witnesses and those who took care of the event, last New Year party of the Ceausescu party was an ordinary one. Which means it was celebrated like they did it during last 10 years, according jurnalul.ro
The party was held in Pool-club Floreasca. They had this club idea since their “revolutionary youth”, when the communists were organizing worker’s clubs.
Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu were getting to the club only by making a couple steps on an alley which was walked only by them. All the rest of guests were getting in from the road side using their duty cars.
“A holiday with a sober character” – this being the result of the preparations for New Year party made by Camil Roguski. For almost three weeks, the architect and his team consisting of 60 men were making the project real. The huge gym was becoming the “fir room”. One hundred firs were sent from all over the country. The firs were being installed this creating the “fairy”. The witnesses said that it was hard to do all that.
It is understood that none of the invited people could excuse himself from missing the party. First they all were waiting for their arrival. When around 10:00 they were coming everybody were meeting them with applauses, just like in congress. They were taking their places in the center of the table, all the rest taking their places according to the protocol.
“The guests” were talking less, and refusing waiters to poor some alcohol in their glasses. They weren’t eating or drinking more than the “hosts” (Ceausescu family).
The guests were eating and watching very carefully the TV New Year show. There was no live music. The head of propaganda, was announcing all the following artists. The show was prepared for months; this is why he knew it very well.
Everybody is smiling sober – looking at both TV and “comrade”
A couple minutes before New Year to come, the fir room stops murmuring because the general secretary started his speech on TV. Everybody, including Ceausescu and all staff, were watching thoughtfully the TV. The last moments of 1988 were passing away.
“Happy New Year!”. One by one, everybody was passing in front of the Ceausescu couple. At 2:00 o’clock were already in their beds. This is it the New Year. This is how it all happened…Something it won’t happen anymore.
